Thetis & Peleus: Resistance is FutileThis painting is based on the Greek myth of Thetis and Peleus. Thetis was the daughter of the Sea God but Zeus decided she should marry a mortal man rather than a God. Peleus wanted her and when she resisted he got her in on arm lock whereupon her animal protectors, the snake and the leopard, attacked him. They were not successful and she ended up marrying Peleus and together they became parents of Achilles. Note the snake attacking Peleus' heel, presaging Achilles problems with his heel, the only place he was vulnerable to attack.Original watercolor30" x 22"
